Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Police and Public Safety Department seeks a Security Officer to perform duties on fixed posts and to patrol campus buildings, parking lots and other University facilities to assure all areas are secure and free of hazards and suspicious/unauthorized persons. To patrol all assigned areas, giving special attention to problem areas.

To assist visitors with directions and street locations, as well as various departments in the hospital and on campus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; Alabama Driver's License or state ID within 30 days of hire.
• Experience with campus safety or security operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Inventories all assigned keys and ensures scheduled buildings are locked or open as requested.
• Locks and unlocks all assigned area doors per schedule and special requests.
• Observes for criminal activity or suspicious circumstances and calls police for assistance when needed.
• Guides or assists responding officers and helps maintain a safe campus environment.
• Patrols assigned areas with emphasis on problem locations to deter crime and ensure safety.
• Reports incidents and assists with documenting university-related safety issues.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Police and Public Safety Department seeks a Security Officer to perform prescribed duties on fixed posts, and to patrol campus buildings, parking lots and other University facilities to assure all areas are secure and free of hazards and suspicious/unauthorized persons. To patrol all assigned areas, giving special attention to problem areas. To assist visitors with directions and street locations, as well as various departments in the hospital and on campus.
Key Duties And Responsibilities

• Inventories all assigned keys and takes notes to assure all scheduled buildings are locked or open for individual or group request.
• Locks and unlocks all assigned area doors per schedule and in accordance with special lock or unlock requests.
• Observes for criminal activity or suspicious circumstances in the form of persons, places or things while locking and unlocking doors.
• If suspicious circumstances are noted, calls police for assistance immediately and remains in the area to guide or assist the responding officer.
• Creates a sense of safety and security on university properties.
• Takes all necessary measure to reduce opportunity for criminal activity and the commission of crime within the University and its properties.
• Identifies criminal offenders and calls for police officers if apprehension is required or advisable.
• Cooperates with and assists State, Municipal and other public agencies as required.
• Assists all persons seeking directions, information or assistance.
• Patrols all assigned areas giving special attention to and often rechecking those locations where security problems may be the most frequent.
• Observes for all infractions of university rules and regulations that may cause harm to persons or property and requests a police officer to report incidents and if required write the appropriate report.

Hourly starting salary - $16.00
High School diploma or GED required. Alabama Drivers License OR state ID required within 30 days of hire.
