Job summary

The Hawaii State Department of Education is seeking a School Security Attendant I, SR-07, to patrol campus grounds, observe student activity, and assist staff in maintaining safety and order across the school environment. The role requires strong English literacy, basic arithmetic, and reliable judgment in monitoring crowds and responding to incidents.

Responsibilities include enforcing rules, reporting hazards, managing access, and supporting administration during events and special activities.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and understand oral and written English, follow instructions, and perform simple arithmetic.
• General Experience: 6 Months; Specialized Experience: 6 Months; Total Experience: 6 Months.
• Experience in administrative, technical, or clerical roles involving following written procedures and interacting with the public.

Responsibilities

• Performs campus supervision by patrolling the school grounds during class, lunch, before and after school hours.
• Observes and reports on unusual student behavior on campus.
• Discusses problems with students and encourages them to seek or accept assistance and/or counseling.
• Ensures the safe and orderly movement of pedestrians and vehicular traffic on school grounds and may supervise the JPO program.
• Enforces school rules and regulations by prohibiting student smoking, gambling, fighting, vandalism, etc.
• Inspects and patrols playgrounds, bathrooms, assembly areas, cafeteria and other facilities for safety hazards.
• Directs unauthorized persons off the premises and reports concerns to administrators.
• Assists staff with supervision at assemblies, pep rallies, athletic events and dances.
• Instructs loitering students to proceed to their destination.
• Assists teaching staff in handling disturbances.
• Informs administrators of critical situations requiring outside assistance (police, fire, etc.).
• May activate alarms as necessary.
