Job summary

Hawaiʻi State Department of Education seeks a School Security Attendant I to patrol campus grounds, monitor student behavior, and enforce rules for safe, orderly school operations.

Responsibilities include supervising events, assisting staff, and communicating critical safety concerns to administrators. Requires reading/writing English and 6 months general plus 1 year specialized experience or substitutions. Certification as a Guard is required.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and understand oral and written English.
• General Experience: 6 months required.
• Specialized Experience: 1 year of specialized experience, or equivalent through substitution.
• A high school diploma may be substituted for six months of general experience.
• Experience in law enforcement, security, or an honorable military discharge may substitute for six months of general and one year of specialized experience.
• An associate degree or higher may substitute for six months general and one year specialized experience.

Responsibilities

• Patrols school grounds during class, lunch, and before/after hours to supervise campus.
• Observe and report unusual student behavior on campus.
• Discuss problems with students and encourage seeking or accepting assistance and counseling.
• Ensure safe and orderly movement of pedestrians and traffic around school grounds; may supervise JPO program.
• Enforce school rules and prohibit smoking, gambling, fighting, vandalism, etc.
• Inspect playgrounds, bathrooms, cafeterias, and other facilities for safety hazards.
• Direct unauthorized persons off school premises and report concerns to administrators.
• Assist administration and staff with supervision at assemblies, pep rallies, athletic events, and dances.
• Instruct loitering students to move to destination; assist staff with disturbances.
• Inform administrators of critical situations requiring police or fire assistance; may activate alarms.
