Job summary

Norfolk State University is seeking a Campus Security Officer to provide safety and security services on campus. Responsibilities include responding to calls, monitoring alarms, patrolling, enforcing safety policies, and assisting injured individuals while maintaining a secure environment for students and staff.

The role requires independent decision-making, attention to safety protocols, and the ability to operate a vehicle and assist during emergencies.

Qualifications

Experience in campus safety or security (preferred).
Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
Ability to identify and follow safety policies and procedures.
Ability to operate security equipment and alarm monitoring software is advantageous.

Responsibilities

Receive and prioritize complaints to determine appropriate response.
Monitor alarm systems and security cameras to detect incidents.
Perform campus patrols to deter safety violations and ensure access control.
Provide assistance to injured or ill individuals and coordinate with health services.
Respond to fires and emergencies, effects evacuations if required, and summon help.
Prepare written reports of incidents, violations, and maintenance of safety records.
Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as departmental needs dictate.
