Job summary

Norfolk State University is seeking a Police Officer to uphold laws, protect campus communities, and ensure a safe environment. The role includes patrols, investigations, and reporting, with a $4,500 signing/retention bonus after three years of continuous service.

Applicants must be at least 21, possess a valid driver’s license, and meet Virginia law enforcement certification criteria. The position requires flexibility for rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, on-site at NSU.

Qualifications

• Must meet state requirements to be sworn as an officer and perform patrols, investigations and training.
• Must be at least 21 years old at hire date.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Demonstrated skill in interpreting policies, procedures and ordinances.
• Demonstrated skill in preparing reports.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to carry a firearm (no felony or domestic assault convictions).
• Ability to pass a physical fitness test.
• Signing/retention bonus of $4,500 after 3 years of continuous service.

• Prepare reports and testify in judicial proceedings when required.
