Summary of Position & Program/Department

The Campus Safety Officer position is part of a 24-hour rotation. The officer is responsible for safety and security assignments, responding to emergencies, and ensuring a safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Duties include campus patrols, emergency responses, property checks, security system management, and supporting other departments.

This non-exempt role offers flexibility and work-life balance, with shifts from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. – 12:00 midnight, or 12:00 midnight – 8:00 a.m., operating 24/7, 365 days. Occasionally, additional hours may be required.

Position Requirements

1. High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
2. At least 1 year of law enforcement or campus safety experience, or relevant college/university experience.
3. Certifications in CPR, First Response, Mental Health First Aid, Crowd Management, OSHA, Defensive Driving, Sexual Assault Prevention (must be obtained within 3 months).
4. Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds and remain standing for extended periods; capable of working in various weather conditions.
5. Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
6. Familiarity with security systems, radio communication, and emergency protocols.
7. Strong communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
8. Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
9. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, scheduling, and dispatch platforms.
10. Discretion in handling sensitive information.
