Job description

The Campus Safety Officer upholds the safety of the University by providing a uniformed campus safety presence on campus and in the University Park neighborhood. Under established policies and procedures, this position is responsible for making decisions to protect and aid the University’s property, people, and visitors.

1. Core Duties
2. Patrols and monitors the University of Portland campus by vehicle, foot, or bicycle to ensure coverage of campus buildings and grounds.
3. Responds to service calls, which may include unlocking buildings, providing escorts, offering information, responding to suspicious activity, emergencies, or urgent matters, and assisting motorists.
4. Evaluates and reports maintenance concerns and campus hazards to support staff and building maintenance.
5. Provides security at functions or athletic events as requested.
6. Administers basic first aid/CPR/AED as provided by the American Red Cross or equivalent, and coordinates with medical responders when higher care is needed.
7. Responds to students in crisis, assesses situations, and coordinates with relevant staff or external resources, including mental health professionals.
8. Responds to security and fire alarm notifications across campus monitored by campus Safety.
9. Investigates campus safety incidents, including property and person-to-person crimes.
10. Updates activity logs and completes incident and investigative reports promptly and clearly.
11. Other duties: Performs additional tasks as assigned by supervisor or designee.
