Salem Academy and College is seeking a Director of Public Safety to lead the non-sworn, unarmed campus safety department. You will plan, organize, and oversee safety operations, coordinate with local law enforcement, and ensure compliance with Clery Act requirements.

The role requires building a collaborative team, managing budgets and policies, and directing emergency response efforts while maintaining a welcoming, secure campus for students, staff, and guests.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably with an emphasis in criminal justice, public administration, higher education administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in campus safety, security administration, higher education, or a related field, including supervisory or management experience.
• Demonstrated experience with emergency management planning, Clery Act compliance, and building collaborative partnerships with local law enforcement and emergency response agencies.
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug testing; valid driver’s license.

Aufgaben

• Collaborates with the Executive Director of Operations to develop departmental plans including advancement, capital, strategic training, campus safety, and operating plans.
• Directs, supervises, and evaluates departmental staff and supervisors; ensures training in customer service, de-escalation, trauma-informed response, and job responsibilities.
• Recruits, hires, trains, and develops a team of public safety officers with a community-focused, service-oriented approach.
• Oversees department budgets, equipment, supplies, inventory, and capital expenditures.
• Establishes department goals, long-range plans, policies, and procedures; monitors effectiveness of the department.
• Serves as Clery Compliance Officer; coordinates with Title IX and college administration on safety training and investigations.
• Maintains relationships with local law enforcement and emergency response partners; represents the college in community safety initiatives.
• Manages campus security operations including building access control, camera systems, patrols, and emergency response coordination.
• Leads and manages the department, providing after-hours support and adapting to changing requirements.
