Job summary

Salem Academy and College seeks a Director of Public Safety to lead Salem’s non-sworn, unarmed campus safety department. The role directs long‑range planning, policy creation, personnel development, and partnership with local law enforcement while ensuring compliance with Clery Act and campus safety standards.

Qualifications

• Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation communication skills.
• Knowledge of campus safety and security in a non-sworn, unarmed environment.
• Experience with emergency management planning and Clery Act compliance.
• Ability to supervise and develop staff and manage disciplinary and performance issues.
• Knowledge of budgeting, purchasing, and inventory control.

Responsibilities

• Develop departmental advancement, capital, and training plans.
• Direct and evaluate departmental staff; ensure training in customer service and de-escalation.
• Recruit, hire, train, and develop a community-focused safety team.
• Assist with budgeting; monitor inventory, capital outlay requests.
• Establish and update department policies and procedures for best practices.
• Serve as Clery Compliance Officer and liaison with Title IX.
