Job summary

San Jose State University is seeking a Community Service Officer to provide a safe environment for students, staff and visitors. You will conduct visible patrols around the SSC and Student Union and act as a liaison with UPD and management, building positive relationships with the campus community.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid California Driver's License.
• Ability to learn San Jose State University regulations.
• Ability to understand and apply local, state and federal laws.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform perimeter checks of SSC and Student Union.
• Alternate posting between SSC Main Lobby and Student Union Welcome Desk.
• Address security concerns of SSC and Student Union staff.
• Coordinate with UPD Patrol Officers to address incidents and mental health crises.
• Report suspicious activity to the Watch Commander.
• Assist students and staff as requested.
• Respond to non-criminal calls for services as directed by the Watch Commander.
• Check in regularly with SSC and Student Union staff.
• Fulfill Clery obligations as a Campus Security Authority.
• Respond to alarms and emergencies as directed.
• Assist University Police with crisis response as appropriate.
• Serve on SSC Building emergency preparedness and response team.
