Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid California Driver’s License required.
• Ability to learn San José State University regulations and local, state and federal laws.
• Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm and act rationally in emergencies.
• Familiarity with public safety equipment and CCTV operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform perimeter checks of SSC and Student Union.
• Alternate between SSC Main Lobby and Student Union Welcome Desk postings.
• Address security concerns of SSC and Student Union staff.
• Coordinate with UPD Patrol Officers on incidents and mental health crises.
• Report suspicious activity to the Watch Commander.
• Assist students and staff as needed.
• Respond to non-criminal calls for service as directed by the Watch Commander.
• Fulfill Clery obligations as a Campus Security Authority.
• Respond to alarms and emergencies as directed by the Watch Commander.
• Participate in campus emergency preparedness and response teams.
