Qualifications

• Current Peace Officer License from TCOLE.
• Completion of Basic Instructor Proficiency Course within one year of appointment.
• Field Training Officer (FTO) Course completed or obtained within six months of appointment.
• Five years of concurrent patrol experience.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws applicable to the role.
• Skilled in the use of firearms, patrol vehicles, and standard police equipment.
• Proficient with computer systems used in law enforcement operations.
• Ability to gather evidence, lead investigations, and deliver testimony.
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and supervisory skills.
• Completion of Clery Act CSA training within three months of appointment.
• Preferred: Master Peace Officer certification; five years of college/university patrol experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and evaluate the performance of Police Officers and staff.
• Manage schedules, authorize overtime, provide training, assign tasks, and set quality standards.
• Address performance concerns and recommend personnel actions including promotions and disciplinary measures.
• Oversee patrol functions and criminal law enforcement activities.
• Respond to and supervise emergency scenes, criminal investigations, traffic incidents, and disturbances.
• Support officers in handling complex or sensitive incidents.
• Participate in investigations, interview witnesses and suspects, process scenes, and gather evidence.
• Ensure accuracy in incident documentation and timely completion of official records and reports.
• Interpret and apply departmental policies and procedures; ensure compliance with laws and protocols.
• Coordinate with area law enforcement and emergency response agencies; liaison for interdepartmental cooperation.
