Job summary

Sacramento State Police Department is seeking an experienced Administrator II to serve as third-in-command, overseeing patrol, investigations, and dispatch operations on a 24/7 basis.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, a minimum of ten years as a California peace officer, and POST certifications. Strong leadership, policy interpretation, and written communication are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited university/college; substitutions allowed on a year-for-year basis.
• Ten years of paid California peace officer experience.
• Possession of California POST academy certificates (Basic/Intermediate/Advanced/Supervisory).
• Current or prior service as a Sergeant or higher; minimum of three years as Sergeant.
• Completion of a POST-certified management course within one year and two years as lieutenant.
• Meet minimum standards in California Government Code, Section 1031 and other peace officer requirements.
• Valid California Class C Driver’s license and a safe driving record.
• Increasing responsibility in law enforcement operations, training, supervision, and planning.

Responsibilities

• Lead 24/7 sworn patrol, investigations, and Dispatch operations.
• Coordinate proactive patrol, community policing, emergency response, and special events.
• Direct recruitment, selection, scheduling, training, and performance for assigned personnel.
• Shape policies and procedures; ensure compliance across operations and support functions.
• Act as Incident Commander and Watch Commander; liaise with allied agencies.
• Assume Deputy or Chief responsibilities when required and manage cross-division projects.
