Job summary

Sacred Heart University seeks a Plumber Lead to install, maintain, repair, inspect, and operate campus plumbing, piping, drainage, water distribution, and related systems. You will ensure code compliance and provide maintenance and emergency response support across academic, residential, dining, and athletic facilities.

Responsibilities include diagnostic work, preventive maintenance, renovations support, documentation, and mentoring of staff.

Qualifications

• Connecticut P-2 or P-1 Plumbing License required.
• High school diploma or GED required; HVAC trade school or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible plumbing experience in commercial or institutional facilities.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Backflow Prevention Certification.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Knowledge of steam, hydronic, and mechanical building systems.
• Experience supporting renovation and construction projects.
• Ability to install, repair, maintain, and test plumbing systems.
• Proficient in pipe fitting, soldering, brazing, threading, welding, and fixture installation.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair plumbing systems across campus facilities.
• Diagnose issues involving domestic water, sanitary waste, and related equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections to maximize reliability.
• Respond to emergencies including leaks and pipe failures.
• Support renovation and capital projects with plan reviews and shutdowns.
• Document work performed, labor hours, materials used, and equipment history.
• Work independently and coordinate with Facilities, Public Safety, contractors, and PMs.
• Provide technical guidance to maintenance staff and apprentices.
• Participate in on-call rotation; evenings, weekends, holidays possible.
• Read blueprints and construction documents; ensure code compliance.
