Job summary

University of Hawai'i seeks a Network Specialist to design, manage, and secure campus network infrastructure including LAN/WAN, VoIP, wireless, and VPNs. You will coordinate with IT teams and vendors to ensure reliable service and scalability across Hawai'i Community College and related campuses.

The role requires strong TCP/IP knowledge, firewall and security skills, and experience with education-sector networks. This is a general funded, full-time position with December 2026 start potential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in ICS/IT/MIS/CS/Business Admin or equivalent plus 3 years networking experience.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP (IPv4/IPv6), VoIP, VLANs, DNS/DHCP, and firewall concepts.
• Experience with LAN/WAN, wireless networks, and data center or campus networks.
• Ability to interpret admin directives and align IT operations with standards.
• Experience maintaining network security and incident response in a higher-education setting.

Responsibilities

• Designs, manages and maintains TCP/IP networks and related services.
• Identifies and resolves network connectivity issues across campus infrastructure.
• Configures switches, VLANs, VPNs, and access controls to ensure security and availability.
• Monitors network traffic, outages, and performance; coordinates change management logs.
• Collaborates with campus IT and vendors to ensure interconnectivity and project delivery.
• Mentors staff and students; plans and coordinates network projects and upgrades.
• Maintains documentation, inventory, and disaster recovery procedures.
