Job summary

Bowie State University is seeking a Plant Superintendent to oversee campus-wide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and safety across infrastructure.

The role manages operation, PM, and work orders for HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, and BAS, supervises technical staff, and coordinates MEP-related capital projects and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 7+ years experience managing industrial or commercial HVAC/MEP systems with degree; 12 years without a degree.
• 5+ years direct oversight of building mechanical and infrastructure systems, including chillers, boilers, pumps, AHUs, and distribution systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversees operation, maintenance and reliability of campus MEP systems, including HVAC plants, electrical distribution, and plumbing infrastructure.
• Ensures preventive maintenance programs and work order processes are effective, updating PM tasks in the CMMS.
• Manages BAS and directs controls contractors for optimal system performance and energy efficiency.
• Serves as primary manager for all MEP-related service contracts and contractor performance.
• Supports capital projects, deferred maintenance, budgeting and implementation.
• Represents Operations & Maintenance in capital planning, construction, and renovation projects.
• Reviews system performance data and recommends improvements for efficiency and reliability.
• Maintains project schedules addressing deferred maintenance and upgrades.
• Collaborates with Facilities leadership to prioritize work orders and improvements.
• Assists in training staff on MEP systems, safety, and procedures.
• Ensures OSHA/MOSH compliance and university safety standards.
