Job summary

NC State University’s Facilities Division in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Locksmith I to keep campus buildings secure and fully operational. You will install, repair, and maintain a wide range of security hardware while learning from experienced locksmiths.

The role requires a high school diploma, a valid NC driver’s license, and willingness to perform lifting duties. On-site schedule is Mon-Fri, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., with benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency required.
• Experience in trade areas may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
• Preferred: troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; record-keeping; basic tools knowledge; door hardware experience; ability to safely operate locksmith tools.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and maintain mechanical security hardware, including locks and door hardware.
• Cut keys by duplication and code; assist with key blank identification and core keying.
• Change lock combinations and service small-format interchangeable cores.
• Perform preventative maintenance on locking systems for reliability.
• Assist senior locksmiths with master key system work across campus facilities.
• Learn and operate locksmithing equipment, including key machines, code machines, and keypunches.
• Troubleshoot mechanical locking hardware issues and diagnose system failures.
• Track work orders and document service requests using the AiM system.
• Coordinate with faculty, staff, vendors, and shop personnel to complete work orders.
