Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking an Operations & Maintenance Specialist to support the University of Kansas campus. You will maintain several facilities including the Integrated Science Building and Central Utility Plant, focusing on HVAC and mechanical systems while leading and training junior staff.

The role requires a two-year technical degree or apprenticeship alignment and five+ years in operations and maintenance, with on-call responsibilities and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Requires two-year technical degree or two years’ experience as an Operations & Maintenance Specialist II, or completion of an apprenticeship program.
• Requires five or more years’ experience in operations and maintenance.
• Must be physically able to perform basic maintenance tasks (climb ladders, work in confined spaces, lift up to 50 lbs).
• Must be able to participate on call rotation.
• Required to use a variety of hand and power tools or man lift.
• Basic electrical system working knowledge.
• May be required to possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Service, repair, maintain, monitor and adjust HVAC systems.
• Performs service work, general maintenance and custodial activities.
• Repair building systems, electrical fixtures, appliances and equipment (carpentry, painting, plumbing as needed).
• Provide direction and training to less experienced O&M Specialists.
• Plan, select, and lay out materials for service, repair and preventive maintenance.
• Work from drawings, schematics, blueprints or verbal instructions using tools and machines.
• Requisition new supplies and equipment.
• Perform all work in accordance with safety procedures.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to attend to emergencies.
• Comply with company policies and procedures.
