Job summary

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) seeks a detail-oriented Day Porter to maintain and beautify our Tucson campus. The role supports safety and cleanliness across grounds and facilities, contributing to a welcoming school environment for students, staff, and families.

responsibilities include exterior upkeep, equipment operation, basic repairs, irrigation checks, event setup, and security tasks. DOE-based hourly compensation at $15.50–$18.00 on-site.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Background check and IVP clearance required.
• Groundskeeping/custodial/facilities maintenance experience preferred.
• Ability to safely operate maintenance and landscaping equipment.
• Attention to detail and commitment to a safe, clean campus.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet schedules.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain exterior campus appearance per daily/weekly/monthly/annual schedules.
• Sweep, rake, and blow sidewalks, parking lots, and outdoor areas.
• Empty exterior trash and remove campus litter.
• Ensure play areas and equipment are safe and in good condition.
• Perform routine landscaping tasks including pruning shrubs/trees and herbicide applications.
• Operate landscape equipment and tools safely.
• Power wash sidewalks, exteriors, and fencing for a clean appearance.
• Perform minor exterior painting and touch-ups as needed.
• Monitor irrigation systems and ensure proper watering.
• Rake rock areas and maintain playground landscapes for safety.
• Support with safety cones and signage for driveline operations.
• Assist with events by setting up rooms and cafeterias.
• Perform light maintenance like changing bulbs and filters.
• Assist with building security duties as needed.
• Report supply needs and major repairs to management.
• Support interior cleaning of classrooms and common areas.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Ability to pass a background check and obtain IVP fingerprint clearance card

Experience in groundskeeping, custodial, or facilities maintenance preferred

Ability to safely operate maintenance and landscaping equipment

Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe, clean campus

Ability to work independently, follow schedules, and complete tasks with minimal supervision

Strong communication and teamwork skills
