Job summary

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) in Tucson, AZ, seeks a Grounds/Day Porter to join our facilities team. You will maintain exterior campus grounds and ensure a clean, safe environment for students and staff.

Responsibilities include routine landscaping, debris removal, irrigation checks, equipment operation, and event support. The role offers $15.50–$18.00/hour DOE with benefits and a safety‑minded, team‑oriented workplace.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to pass a background check and obtain IVP fingerprint clearance card.
• Experience in groundskeeping, custodial, or facilities maintenance preferred.
• Ability to operate maintenance and landscaping equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and safety.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the exterior campus grounds per daily/weekly/monthly/annual schedules.
• Sweep, rake, and blow sidewalks, parking lots, and outdoor areas.
• Empty exterior trash cans and remove litter around campus grounds.
• Prune shrubs/trees and apply herbicides as directed.
• Operate, maintain, and safely use landscape equipment (pole saws, weed eaters, backpack blowers).
• Power wash sidewalks, building exteriors, and fencing.
• Perform minor exterior painting and touch-ups as needed.
• Monitor irrigation systems and proper watering.
• Assist with events by setting up spaces and signage.
• Report supply needs to the Office Manager and notify the Head of Operations/Facilities Manager of major repairs.
• Follow safety protocols and chemical handling laws (HAZMAT, SDS).
• Provide excellent customer service to staff, students, and families.
