Job summary

Wheaton College in Norton, MA is seeking a Grounds and General Maintenance Worker to provide in-house groundskeeping, athletic field maintenance, seasonal landscaping, snow and ice management, and basic facility upkeep across campus.

You will perform landscaping tasks, maintain fields, clean hardscapes, assist with trades, and support events such as Commencement and move-ins, reporting to the Physical Plant department.

Qualifications

• Essential campus operations role with emergency/weather duties.
• High School Diploma or GED required; 1–3 years grounds experience preferred.
• Valid Driver's License and safe driving record required.
• Knowledge of grounds maintenance, landscaping, and facilities operations.
• Basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC understanding for minor repairs.
• Ability to operate light/heavy equipment and safety protocols.
• Flexibility for overtime, weekends, and emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Perform primary landscaping duties: planting, mowing, edging, weeding, mulching, fertilizing, pruning.
• Maintain athletic fields and groom artificial turf.
• Inspect and clean exterior hardscapes, furniture, benches, and storm drains.
• Assist with campus snow and ice removal using winter equipment.
• Support trades staff with general tasks and minor repairs.
• Assist in waste/recycling collection and event setup/breakdown.
