Job summary

Amarillo College is seeking a Foreman - Grounds Maintenance to supervise and participate in all grounds and landscape tasks across College properties. You’ll guide mowing, planting, irrigation, and upkeep with hands-on leadership.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, 2 years in grounds maintenance, and Texas driver’s license with a pesticide license or ability to obtain. Experience in supervision is preferred.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience in grounds maintenance required.
• One (1) year of supervision in grounds maintenance preferred.
• Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with a 3-year safe driving record required.
• Current State of Texas Pesticide Private Applicator’s License or ability to obtain it.
• Irrigation system certification for installation, maintenance, and repair or ability to obtain it.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, assign, and inspect daily grounds maintenance work.
• Provide hands-on instruction, coaching, and feedback to staff.
• Recommend staffing, equipment, and operations improvements to management.
• Maintain lawns, turf, trees, shrubs, beds, and interior plants.
• Inspect and troubleshoot irrigation systems and water schedules.
• Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides safely per label and procedures.
• Maintain records of irrigation, chemical applications, inspections, and inventory.
• Coordinate outdoor maintenance and minor repairs of landscape features.
• Inspect grounds for safety concerns and coordinate with other departments.
