Job summary

Caltech in Pasadena is seeking a Groundskeeper to perform a variety of landscape maintenance tasks in a campus research setting, upholding high aesthetic and safety standards. The role reports to a Landscape Technician or Grounds Lead and requires adherence to Institute safety policies.

Responsibilities include watering, pruning, mulching, weed control, and plant propagation, with occasional use of leaf blowers and basic tools.

Qualifications

• One year of gardening/landscape experience.
• Knowledge of botanical or common plant names.
• Valid California driver’s license; ability to operate Institute vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
• Use basic gardening hand tools and light equipment (hoes, shovels, pruners, hedge shears; leaf blower when needed).
• Maintain plants by watering, trimming, pruning, mulching, and cultivating flower beds.
• Divide and transplant small plant material and manage new plantings during establishment.
• Identify, flag, and report sprinkler problems in assigned area.
• Clean tools and report repairs; sweep, rake, or blow hardscape and planter areas.
• Wipe patio furniture, empty trash, and assist with campus clean-up after weather events.
• Overtime may be required and other duties as assigned.
