Job summary

Northwest Shoals Community College is seeking a Fire Watch Attendant to maintain continuous surveillance of campus areas, identify fire hazards, and respond to emergencies under the direction of the Facilities Department.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Prior experience as a fire watch, safety monitor, or security guard is preferred.
• Knowledge of fire extinguisher use is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain continuous visual surveillance of assigned areas for smoke, sparks, flames, or other potential fire hazards.
• Monitor designated work areas during activities requiring fire watch or when fire protection systems are impaired.
• Ensure combustible materials are removed from or maintained at a safe distance from designated work areas.
• Verify familiarity with fire alarm pull stations, fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and emergency response equipment.
• Immediately activate emergency procedures and contact emergency services when signs of fire or other emergencies are detected.
