Job summary

Stony Brook University is seeking an Assistant Commander within the Fire Services team to protect life and property across campus facilities and surrounding properties. The role involves fire safety inspections, emergency response to fires and alarms, conducting drills, testing fire protection systems, and developing building emergency plans.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or four years of related experience in lieu of degree.
Three years of full-time emergency responder experience.
Two years as an operational fire officer (volunteer allowed).
Valid NYS Driver's License and clean driving record.
NYS Fire Officer 1 and NYS/Pro Board Firefighter 1 credentials.
First Aid with CPR.
Haz-Mat Technician.
NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800.
NYS Code Enforcement Official or ability to obtain within 1 year.
NYS Confined Space Technician.

Responsibilities

Lead fire prevention efforts through inspections and hazard assessments.
Coordinate emergency response as Assistant Commander and incident management team member.
Develop and implement building emergency plans and fire safety training.
Inspect and test fire protection systems and ensure NFPA compliance.
Provide fire safety coverage for events and emergencies and maintain records.
