Job summary

The University of Chicago seeks a Manager to lead the Structural Mechanic, Carpentry, Locksmith, and Decorating Shops within OPS Facilities Building Trades. You will oversee 25+ staff, assign maintenance tasks, approve materials, and interface with clients on project scheduling and closeout.

You will provide technical and budget oversight, ensuring projects meet codes, safety standards, and lifecycle cost considerations. Strong leadership and communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
  • Eight years experience in design, construction and project management related duties and activities.
  • Experience in project management in a university setting.
  • Experience in managing numerous projects concurrently.
  • Experience, which demonstrates competency and exposure to large-scale building projects involving all building trade divisions.

Responsibilities

  • Set annual performance goals and allocate resources for staff and performance reviews.
  • Staffing model development to meet capability and capacity needs; hire, mentor and develop staff.
  • Provide technical expertise in building envelope and masonry projects; ensure budget and codes compliance.
  • Coordinate safety plans for shop activities and oversee timecard approvals and disciplinary actions.
  • Communicate with internal/external stakeholders and maintain relationships within the University community.
