Job summary

The University of Chicago is seeking a Building Maintenance Worker to support Facilities Services in Chicago, IL. The role ensures daily room turnover, event set-up, minor repairs, and campus upkeep in residence halls and common areas.

You'll participate in snow removal, exterior cleanup, and safety-focused operations, coordinating with trades and staff to deliver timely services for residents, staff, and visitors. A valid driver’s license and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience in maintenance or janitorial/housekeeping roles preferred.
• Maintenance apprenticeship program or certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform non-mechanical repair and room turnover tasks in residence halls.
• Assist with light carpentry, painting, and minor repairs as needed.
• Support event setup and housekeeping for conferences and programs.
• Assist with snow shoveling, exterior cleaning, and safety inspections.
• Ensure cleanliness of entrances, lobby areas, and common spaces.
• Generate follow-up work orders for engineering or skilled trades when required.
