Job summary

Columbus College of Art & Design is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician I to support campus upkeep and safety. You will perform preventative maintenance and repairs on buildings and grounds as part of a team, with supervision.

The role requires readiness to work flexible hours and on-call shifts for campus events and emergencies. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma and 1–3 years related experience, plus a basic understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry tasks.

Qualifications

• Ability to learn and apply proper safety techniques and procedures.
• Ability to learn and apply proper lifting techniques and operate heavy equipment (e.g., forklift).
• Ability to learn to use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely.
• Ability to learn and apply proper maintenance procedures and use of equipment and supplies.
• Ability to receive and apply instruction from senior techs.
• Ability to participate in rotating on-call schedule for after hours.

Responsibilities

• Inspect buildings, electrical systems, grounds, and equipment to ensure safe conditions and identify hazards.
• Perform minor troubleshooting and repairs; replace light bulbs, ballasts, and fuses.
• Assist with preventive maintenance and HVAC troubleshooting (filters, etc.).
• Complete maintenance work orders in a timely manner.
• Identify and repair plumbing fixtures; open clogged lines with senior tech guidance.
• Assist with carpentry and repair work.
• Operate machinery, equipment and tools (saws, routers, drills, hand tools).
• Assist with snow and ice removal.
• Move and store supplies, furniture, and equipment; assist setup for events.
• Wear PPE and follow safety procedures.
