Job summary

Jackson State Community College seeks a Campus Events Coordinator to plan, promote, and execute campus-wide events, ceremonies, and community programming. Reporting to the Director of Student Life & Campus Engagement, you will work with students, faculty, staff, vendors, and partners to create engaging experiences that reflect the college's mission and support student success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, hospitality, business, higher education, student affairs, or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • 1–3 years of experience in event planning, student activities, hospitality, project coordination, or related experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and events simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, vendors, and community partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and social media platforms.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed for events and campus programming.
  • Ability to lift and move event materials and assist with event setup and breakdown.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute campus events, institutional ceremonies, and community engagement programming.
  • Collaborate with internal departments including Student Services, Academic Affairs, Marketing & Communications, Athletics, Facilities, and community partners to ensure event goals, logistics, and messaging are aligned.
  • Manage event logistics including scheduling, facility reservations, catering, décor, transportation, equipment setup, vendor coordination, signage, and event staffing.
  • Develop event timelines, budgets, planning documents, and run-of-show materials to ensure smooth event execution and fiscal responsibility.
  • Coordinate day-of-event operations including setup and breakdown, volunteer management, troubleshooting, guest support, and operational oversight.
  • Ensure events are welcoming, inclusive, accessible, and student-centered.
  • Maintain inventory of event supplies, equipment, promotional materials, and décor items.
  • Support student engagement by helping plan events, develop leaders, collaborate with campus organizations, guide student groups, and assist with recruiting and training student workers.

Campus Events Coordinator

The Campus Events Coordinator plays a central role in shaping the campus experience at Jackson State Community College. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, promoting, and executing a wide range of college events, including campus-wide events, institutional ceremonies, and community engagement programming. Reporting to the Director of Student Life & Campus Engagement, the Campus Events Coordinator works collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, vendors, and community partners to create meaningful experiences that foster campus engagement, strengthen campus culture, and support student success. The coordinator ensures events are effectively managed from concept through completion while maintaining alignment with the mission and goals of the College and the Office of Student Life & Campus Engagement.

Job Duties
Event Planning & Coordination
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute campus events, institutional ceremonies, and community engagement programming.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of annual signature events including Fall/Spring Convocation, Annual Holiday Celebration & Employee Recognition, State of the College, Greet Weeks, Graduation, and other campus traditions.
  • Collaborate with internal departments including Student Services, Academic Affairs, Marketing & Communications, Athletics, Facilities, and community partners to ensure event goals, logistics, and messaging are aligned.
  • Manage event logistics including scheduling, facility reservations, catering, décor, transportation, equipment setup, vendor coordination, signage, and event staffing.
  • Develop event timelines, budgets, planning documents, and run-of-show materials to ensure smooth event execution and fiscal responsibility.
  • Coordinate day-of-event operations including setup and breakdown, volunteer management, troubleshooting, guest support, and operational oversight.

Marketing & Communication
  • Coordinate event promotion efforts in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications Office through social media, digital signage, email communication, newsletters, and printed materials.
  • Create and distribute promotional content designed to increase awareness and participation in campus programs and activities.
  • Maintain event calendars, communication schedules, and event-related documentation.
  • Assist with outreach efforts related to Student Life & Campus Engagement programs and services.
Administrative & Operational Duties
  • Track event budgets, purchasing requests, invoices, and expenditures while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
  • Collect attendance data, participant feedback, and assessment information to evaluate event effectiveness and improve future programming.
  • Ensure compliance with college policies, safety procedures, accessibility standards, and risk management practices.
  • Support departmental initiatives and office operations as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Life & Campus Engagement.
Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working in higher education, student affairs, campus activities, or event management.
  • Experience with marketing, social media management, graphic design platforms, or event management software.
  • Experience supervising student workers, volunteers, or student leaders.
  • Knowledge of student engagement and campus programming best practices.

Physical Demands / Working Conditions
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift and transport event materials weighing up to 25–40 pounds.
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours required to support campus events and programming.
Pay Rate

$42,404 - $53,005 (Annual salary depending on eligible experience, which is defined by the current compensation plan.)
