Job summary

Chartwells Higher Education, part of Compass Group USA, seeks a Sous Chef at Northeastern University in Oakland, CA. The role involves assisting in operation of the culinary department, menu development, and catering oversight. Reports to the Executive Chef and participates in cost control and program rollouts.

The ideal candidate has A.S. or equivalent experience along with progressive culinary/kitchen management experience and strong computer skills. ServSafe is highly desirable.

Qualifications

• A.S. or equivalent experience.
• Progressive culinary/kitchen management experience.
• High volume, complex foodservice operations experience.
• Institutional and batch cooking experiences helpful.
• Knowledge of food and catering trends; focus on quality, production, sanitation, and cost controls.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook and Internet.
• Willing to participate in client satisfaction programs.
• ServSafe certified is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Executive Chef with managing cost controls and expenditures for the account.
• Assist the Executive Chef with planning and creating menus.
• Produce and execute catering events.
• Roll out new culinary programs in conjunction with Company marketing and culinary team.
