Job summary

Ball State University Dining seeks a Food Service Worker to support on-campus dining operations. Under supervision, you will prepare and serve food, stock supplies, operate cash register systems, and maintain sanitation and safety across all work areas.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of Cashier Training Class and passing score on final test.
• Ability to read and comprehend safety policies and university rules.
• No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, or related materials in food service.
• Clean personal appearance (body, teeth, hair, nails, clothing).
• Able to perform all physical/mental requirements of the duties.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

• Assemble supplies and set up service area; serve food as required.
• Hand wash and store pots, pans, and equipment; operate cleaning tasks.
• Clean equipment and work area; maintain sanitation and safety.
• Perform cashier tasks using computerized machinery and record keeping.
• Greet customers to foster positive relationships.
• Set up and operate dishwashing machinery; handle dishware and inventory.
• Scrape and wash dishes; maintain cleanliness of dish area.
• Prepare, store, and deliver fresh produce as needed.
• Count and record amounts of food prepared or served; use scales/calculators.
• Grill or carve food as required; monitor temperatures and portions.
• Obtain supplies from storage areas; restock as necessary.
• Assist with laundry program and general cleaning duties.
• Wait on tables or bus as assigned; provide excellent customer service.
• Assign work and direct student employees when applicable.
• Assist cooks in food preparation; follow safety and recipe instructions.
• Enforce university rules on payment and food handling procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
