Job summary

UC Irvine is seeking a journeyman level cook to support Dining Services on campus. Under supervision, you will perform food preparation, handle knives and equipment safely, and maintain sanitation standards while contributing to catering and special events.

The position is a partial-year career 10-month assignment with weekend and evening shifts. Candidates should have 1–3 years of cooking experience in large-scale food service and a solid understanding of food handling practices.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years experience as a cook in large-scale kitchens.
• 1-3 years experience in a food handling environment.
• 1-3 years experience working in the food service industry.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision of the Food Service Manager, perform journeyman level food preparation.
• Proper food handling, knife and equipment handling, sanitation and cleaning of equipment.
• Recording product usage, plating, portion control, cooking, and assisting in catering and special events.
• Partial Year Career Position is for 10 months at 100%.
