Job summary

Custodial Worker positions at William & Mary maintain campus cleanliness to ensure a safe, healthy environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors. Duties include cleaning, trash removal, floor care, and restocking supplies, with adherence to PPE and safety guidelines.

Positions are non-exempt and may include weekends/holidays with overtime. Applicants must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied indoor/outdoor conditions on campus.

Qualifications

• Must read, write, speak and understand English to follow instructions.
• Able to operate powered and non-powered cleaning equipment and learn heavy floor care equipment.
• Able to work outdoors in extreme temperatures and indoors in hot environments.
• Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs., with bending and stairs.
• Flexibility to work weekends/holidays and respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Perform general custodial and cleaning duties across campus facilities.
• Clean, dust, wipe fixtures, surfaces, floors, walls and windows; refill restroom dispensers.
• Empty and clean trash/recycling; remove waste from buildings.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum floors; maintain floors with cleaners and finishes.
• Use power equipment and hand tools safely for cleaning and maintenance.
• Respond to tenant inquiries and service requests; report damages or needed repairs.
• Lock/unlock buildings and secure premises; respond to emergencies and weather events.
