Job summary

City College of New York is seeking Custodial Assistants to support custodial operations across its historic and modern campus facilities. You will perform cleaning tasks in teaching and research spaces, public areas, and offices, with coverage during enrollment periods and high-profile events.

An essential staff role with responsibilities during emergencies; no formal education required, physical readiness expected, and a 13% salary suppression applies for the first 24 months.

Qualifications

• There are no formal education or experience requirements.
• There are medical and physical requirements as established by University management.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, damp mop, and wet mop office floors, toilets, corridors, lobbies, and other assigned floor areas.
• Cleans washbasins and other toilet room facilities.
• Washes walls by hand with a brush or with an electric machine.
• Scrubs floors with an electric machine; waxes and polishes floors.
• Hand scrubs stairs and stair landings.
• Empties waste baskets and disposes of refuse.
• Vacuums and cleans rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture.
• Dusts and removes dust from window coverings and furniture.
• Cleans mirrors and glass in bookcases, doors, and restrooms.
• Replaces bulbs and fuses.
• Assists with campus events setup and coverage during emergencies.
• Sorts refuse for recycling.
