Job summary

Dartmouth College is seeking a Custodial Day Shift Manager to lead custodial services across a large, vibrant higher education campus. You will oversee three supervisors, two leads, and more than 100 custodial staff responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.

This role requires proven leadership in custodial or facilities management in higher education or related settings, union experience, and a track record of managing budgets and diverse teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent skills and experience.
• Minimum seven years of experience in hospitality, higher education, healthcare, or a related field.
• At least five years managing teams of 10 or more custodial or housekeeping employees.
• Experience managing custodial operations spanning multiple million square feet of facilities and large staff groups.
• Experience working in a unionized work environment.
• Valid driver’s license and qualification under Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.

Responsibilities

• Serve as subject matter expert for major departmental software systems, including timekeeping, work order, and inspection software.
• Manage custodial operations covering cleaning standards, equipment inventory, supply procurement, and vendor relationships.
• Ensure adherence to safety, sanitation, and industry best practices (e.g., ISSA, APPA).
• Coordinate custodial support for campus events including Commencement, Reunions, and dorm turnover.
• Direct custodial response to emergencies such as snow removal, floods, and fires.
• Monitor and manage departmental operational and capital budgets.
