Job summary

Dartmouth College is seeking a Custodian to perform a wide range of cleaning and maintenance tasks on first shift. Under supervision, you will handle floors, restrooms, windows, and event set-ups across campus facilities, while following safety guidelines and recycling procedures.

The role requires 1–2 years custodial experience, ability to lift, use ladders, operate cleaning equipment, and work overtime when needed.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years custodial or related maintenance experience.
• Minimum six months to one year cleaning experience.
• Ability to lift and carry light to medium objects.
• Able to work from ladders to clean light fixtures.
• Operate heavy industrial cleaning equipment safely.
• Understand safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
• Learn event setup and chair/table arrangements.
• Willing to work mandatory overtime when required.
• Follow verbal and written instructions.
• Complete Hazard Communication and Blood Borne Pathogens training.

Responsibilities

• Unlock and lock spaces; clean, mop, strip, wax, and buff floors.
• Vacuum and shampoo carpeted offices, hallways, and common areas.
• Wash windows and dust office furniture and sills.
• Clean restrooms and showers; replace supplies.
• Empty trash; follow FO&M recycling procedures; bag trash around building perimeters.
• Change light bulbs and clean fixtures on an as-needed basis.
• Set up and break down for College events (tables, chairs, lecterns, podiums).
• Sweep leaves, shovel snow, spread sand, and assist with pest control as needed.
• Track cleaning materials and equipment; notify leadership for needs or repairs.
• Assist or act in squad leader’s absence; perform additional duties as assigned.
