Job summary

The University of Notre Dame Operations, Events, and Safety (UOES) division is hiring for temporary/on-call Culinary Service Associates at Shields Athletic Dining Facility. This back-of-house role supports food production and service, equipment cleaning, and general duties to ensure high standards for diners.

Responsibilities include dish room tasks, line maintenance, basic prep, and inventory support. The role emphasizes reliability, teamwork, and consistent guest-focused service.

Qualifications

• Capable of managing time effectively with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication and listening skills.
• Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 6 hours).
• Ability to move around the café to assist guests.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness and visual appeal of serving lines and stations during service hours.
• Assist with basic food preparation tasks (washing/cutting vegetables, assembling sandwiches).
• Monitor and replenish items on serving lines; alert cooks to low stock.
• Operate and maintain basic kitchen equipment safely (toasters, warmers, coffee machines).
• Clean and sanitize workstations, utensils and equipment before/during/after shifts.
• Assist with dishwashing duties and proper storage of dishware.
• Support inventory management and proper storage of food and supplies.
