Job summary

University of California, Santa Cruz is seeking a skilled maintenance carpenter to perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and construction on campus buildings and facilities. The role involves reading blueprints, using a range of carpentry tools, and coordinating with campus trades and external vendors.

Responsibilities include 55% maintenance/repairs, 20% fabrication/construction, 20% wood shop mill work, and 5% safety.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience in commercial building construction or commercial building maintenance.
• Ability to read, write, follow oral and written instructions, and perform basic mathematical computations.
• Ability to direct others in repair work and oversee contractors and vendors.
• Knowledge of asbestos-containing materials and willingness to be certified to remove and dispose of them.
• Experience with various construction materials and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and repairs campus buildings according to a written schedule and safety guidelines.
• Performs remodeling and rough/finish carpentry as per blueprints and specifications.
• Operates wood shop tools and millwork tasks as needed.
• Ensures safety protocols and inspections are followed; participates in safety training.
