Job summary

San José State University is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Mechanic (Carpentry) to perform journey-level carpentry, metalworking, and general facilities maintenance on university buildings and infrastructure. The role requires working under general supervision to complete repairs, renovations, and construction projects while documenting work in CMMS.

The position collaborates with other skilled trades, responds to routine and emergency maintenance needs, and maintains safety and quality

Qualifications

Four years of experience leading to journey-level skills in facility repair and maintenance or equivalent experience.
Ability to read blueprints, drawings and technical specifications for projects.
Preference for certification indicating completion of an apprenticeship program and journey-level standing in carpentry or metal work.

Responsibilities

Perform journey-level carpentry, metalworking, and general facilities maintenance on university buildings.
Install and repair doors, windows, cabinetry, flooring, drywall, and other components.
Fabricate and weld metal parts; read blueprints and estimates for projects.
Use CMMS to document work, track tasks, and schedule preventive maintenance.
Coordinate with other trades and campus staff to complete projects and respond to emergencies.
