Job summary

San José State University is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Mechanic, Carpentry to perform journey-level carpentry, metalworking, and general facilities maintenance on campus buildings and infrastructure. You will work under supervision, document work in CMMS, and coordinate with other trades to support a safe, functional campus.

Typical duties include reading blueprints, estimating labor, materials, and timelines; responding to emergencies; and maintaining records.

Qualifications

• Four years of journey-level experience in facility repair and maintenance, or an equivalent combination of training and experience via apprenticeship.

Responsibilities

• Perform journey-level carpentry, metalworking, and general facilities maintenance, repair, renovation, and construction work on university buildings and infrastructure.
• Install, maintain, and repair building components including doors, windows, cabinetry, flooring, drywall, roofing, ceilings, partitions, and structural fixtures.
• Fabricate, install, and repair sheet metal components and perform welding, machining, and metal fabrication as required.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspect facilities and equipment, diagnose problems, and complete repairs in compliance with building and safety codes.
• Respond to routine service requests and emergency maintenance situations to minimize operational disruptions and protect campus assets.
