Job summary

Barnes & Noble College is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to support the Store or General Manager in daily operations of our bookstore. You will supervise employees, work with customers, and help drive sales and store initiatives.

Responsibilities include directing operations, scheduling, team development, and maintaining an engaging sales floor. The role emphasizes cash handling, customer service, and problem solving on a daily basis.

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience in a retail setting.
• 1+ year supervisory experience preferred or a graduate of the Best Seller Program.
• High school diploma/GED preferred.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Familiarity with financial and customer service principles.
• Basic reading, writing and accounting skills required.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills needed.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Support all store operations and departments with the Store/General Manager.
• Involve in purchasing for departments and direct operational functions.
• Direct scheduling and team development to meet sales goals.
• Maintain a welcoming sales floor and assist customers with purchases.
• Handle customer and employee issues promptly and respectfully.
• Assist with hiring and training new employees for the sales floor.
• Maintain an appealing, organized store layout and product presentation.
