We're seeking a part-time Camp Maintenance Technician to support two of our properties located 20 miles north of Duluth on Island Lake.
Key Responsibilities
- General Maintenance & Property Support
- Make minor repairs and complete projects as needed, to include acquiring supplies from vendors.
- Ensure facilities are cleaned according to schedules.
- Serve as primary point of contact for contractors and paid service work.
- May need to meet on-site during the week.
- Complete or coordinate mowing, snow removal and seasonal transitions.
- Assist with, support or coordinate volunteer service days as needed.
- Interface with local MN Power Representative and support service project requests as needed.
- Record work completed in Northern Star's property management system.
- Respond to 'calls for help' from users who are experiencing issues at the property. (calls routed to cell)
- Operation of Facilities and Properties
- Monitor upcoming reservations and prepare sites accordingly.
- Prior to weekly rentals, conduct safety checks to include smoke & CO detectors, exit lights, fire extinguishers, snow/debris removal and hazards caused by significant weather events.
- Prior to weekly rentals, conduct hospitality checks to include facility cleanliness, rodent control, adequate stock of supplies, information boards are current, HVAC systems functional/on, refrigeration equipment functional/on, and operational lighting
- Post weekly rentals, conduct close down of facility to include trash removed, power off (as required), furnace off, refrigeration off/propped open, equipment accounted for, notations of damages &/or required repair, keys in lockbox and gates locked.
- If property is unused a site visit should happen at least every two weeks to verify condition, security, etc.
- Business Responsibilities
- Comply with established council business procedures including bookkeeping of petty cash (monthly reconciliation to council accounting) and other funds.
- Utilize electronic resources (weekend camp reservation system) to reconcile and submit weekly camp reports..
- Assist in purchasing, budgeting and bid collection as authorized.
- Complete paperwork and code invoices as needed.
- Monitor and respond to emails/requests for information according to council expectations.
Qualifications
- Education and work experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred, technical college education preferred. Facilities management experience or basic home improvement sills preferred. Knowledge of Scouting is helpful; dedication to the mission/ aims/methods of Scouting is required. Strong written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills are required. Budget management experience is desirable. Must be detail-oriented and accurate. Must be able to manage projects from conception to implementation.
- Interpersonal skills: Must have the ability to get along with people and to have a friendly and helpful attitude toward the Scouting and the public. Must have the ability to effectively enforce established policies and procedures. Must be a team player, build relationships and communicate effectively with volunteers and staff to provide good customer service. Must be able to take initiative, and also play both leading and supporting roles. Must be able to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Confidentiality: Must be able to maintain confidentiality of all information dealing with volunteers, youth, and staff.
- Technology: Must have a working knowledge of computers (Windows, Microsoft Office and Teams) and use of email (Outlook) and internet access. Employee will be trained in custom software as needed. Must be able to adapt to the changing needs of technology and methods.
- Physical requirements: repeated physical labor and occasional lifting up to 100 pounds; employees are expected to work with others to safely lift heavy items. Must be able to drive and maintain a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and motor vehicle insurance at minimum levels of $100K/$300K/$100K.
The Camp Maintenance Technician will work approximately 6 hours per week at an hourly rate of $20 to $24 per hour.
