About Us

Because I Said I Would is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and social movement dedicated to the betterment of humanity through promises made and kept. We empower individuals through character education and volunteerism, working with schools, correctional facilities, and communities across the country.

We operate a 92-acre camp and retreat center in Walhonding, Ohio (1 hour NE of Columbus) that serves as a hub for youth leadership programs, corporate retreats, and nonprofit events.

About the Role

As our Camp Director, you’ll lead the operations, staff, and programming of our camp and retreat center. This role is perfect for a strategic and hands-on leader who thrives in outdoor education, nonprofit leadership, and program development.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations, staffing, and guest experiences at the camp & retreat center
• Develop and lead character education and leadership programs
• Cultivate partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and corporate retreat clients
• Manage a budget and ensure financial sustainability
• Maintain American Camp Association (ACA) accreditation and safety standards
• Lead staff recruitment, training, and performance management
• Enhance marketing and outreach efforts to increase camper & retreat participation

Who We’re Looking For

5+ years of leadership experience in camp management, outdoor education, or a similar setting

Passionate about outdoor education & youth development

Strong leadership & relationship-building skills to work with staff, schools, and partners

Proven experience in budget management, safety compliance, and staff development

Ability to live on-site and oversee camp operations year-round

Bonus Qualifications

• Background in corporate retreats, event planning, or nonprofit leadership
• Experience in marketing, social media, or donor engagement
• Bachelor's degree in Camp Management, Outdoor Recreation, or a related field
