Description

Do you have supervisory experience and experience working in aquatic environments as a lifeguard? Are you available for summer employment and want to make an impact for youth in the local community? If so, please consider applying and joining our Camp Lowe team through the Montachusett Community Branch YMCA.

If you are chosen as our candidate, you will be expected to supervise the waterfront at camp, being responsible for the waterfront safety and overall supervision of teaching of YMCA swimming lessons, guarding of free swimming, and leading of boating (canoeing). The position requires pre-camp training held in June and runs for the duration of camp from late June to late August.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Follow Board of Health regulations for running a swim area.
  • Plan and implement daily lessons and free swims.
  • Schedule lifeguard shifts and supervise lifeguards to ensure that all policies are being followed.
  • Maintain active surveillance of the waterfront area and ensure the safety of campers and staff.
  • Check the waterfront for hazardous conditions upon arrival.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available when needed.
  • Know and review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the 'safe in six' model; complete related reports as required.
  • Remain calm and objective under pressure and respond to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or state health department code.
  • Attend all staff trainings and meetings.
  • Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the waterfront area.
  • Set social media accounts to private and refrain from internet communication with program participants/staff under the age of 18.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must have 2 months prior experience in a supervisory role at a similar aquatic facility and/or verification in aquatics management/supervision.
  • Current certifications required: Basic Life Support or Professional Rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, Emergency Oxygen Administration, and Lifeguard certification from the YMCA or equivalent.
  • Must be able to demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards and be able to sit, stand, and supervise for extended periods in various weather conditions; heat, rain, wind, etc.

Job Type: Summer Seasonal

Shifts: Mondays-Fridays from 8:30am-3:30pm, June 30th, 2025-August 29th, 2025

**All Camp Staff Training on Saturday, June 7th, 2025

**Pre-Camp training and Post-Camp preparation is required--dates TBD

Pay: $21.00/hour for new hires. Plus, access to YMCA facilities for all YMCA employees and Employee Assistance Program.
