Appalachian Mountain Club in Gorham, NH, invites applications for a Camp Crew position at Camp Dodge. You will support Head Cooks, help prepare trail lunches, and keep the kitchen clean, while meals and housing are provided during the season.

Join nearly a hundred years of history at Camp Dodge – operational in some capacity since 1935, it has served as a base for gear testing, WWII conscientious objectors, and conservation corps. Nestled in Pinkham Notch, you get breathtaking views of the Northern Presidential Range and incredible access to hiking, biking, swimming, and more.
Afternearly fourdecades ofAMCuse, renovations in 2020 transitioned the facility from a volunteer centerinto the North Country trails operations hub.The facility expanded to havenew staffhousing,anupdated kitchen and bathhouses, anewworkshop,andalarge pavilion fortrails training and community meals.Itserves as basecamp for the AMC’s professional trail crews, AmeriCorps crews, volunteer programs, backcountry caretakers, research interns, and some Forest Service employees.
AsCamp Crew you would be expected tosupport the Head Cooksinservingmeals, preparing trail lunches, and daily cleaning and maintenance.Our aim is to supportthecrews during the work week and on their days off with exciting, nourishing mealsand provide them with clean, comfortable housing.The work week is ten-hour days - four days on, three daysoff.Days off may not all besubsequent.A $75 per week paycheck deduction covers all employee foodand housingfor days on and off.Mostdietary restrictions can be accommodated.
Kitchen Operationsand Meal Preparation: Actively participate in creating a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchenenvironmentat all times.Independently follow adailytask list includingessential food preparation for daily meals, dishwashing, and meal set up and clean up.
Groundwork and Facility Maintenance:Perform cleaning, landscaping, and otherhands-ontasks to keep the camp running smoothly.These tasks range from planting andmaintainingthe garden, weed whacking, mowing, compost work, and dailyfacilitycleaning.
Minorfacility repair and maintenance as needed.
CommunityCollaboration: Work closely with Head Cooks and Crew tomaintaina safe and fun environment.Activelypromote AMC programs and encourage membership to support AMC’s conservation and public service efforts.
Comfortable working in and around a standard commercial kitchen with exposure to cleaning products.
Capability tolift upto 60 pounds from waist to head height or from floor to waist height.
Ability to stand, sit, and walk for up to 12 hours at a time.
Ability to work in a camp setting in all weather conditions.
Flexibility toregularly workweekends, holidays, and evenings as part of the camp’s schedule.Working as early as 4:30AM and as late as 8PM isrequired.Some workdays may be split into early morning and evening shifts.
A positive attitude and commitment to fostering community and doinggood work.
Ability toopenlyand effectively communicate.Camp Dodge is a small community of people who live and work together for the duration of theseasonwhich requires every individual to have a positive, respective attitude and be community minded.Comfortwithgiving and receiving feedback is important.
Experience in camp operations, hospitality, and/or outdoor work is preferred.
Previousfood service or kitchen experience ispreferred.
Ability to follow instructions and succeed in performing a wide range of assigned tasks.
Familiarity with facility maintenance and repair is desirable.
Salary range:$16.00-$17.00/hr

External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education,skillsand geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
