The Camp Counselor is responsible for assisting participants with medication administration, personal cares, providing quality recreation-based services, and maintaining a safe, supportive, and comfortable setting.
Camp date: 6/16/2025 - 8/1/2025 (You must commit to working the entirety of your assigned camp)
Working Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Locations: Wil-O-Way Underwood, 10602 Underwood Parkway, Wauwatosa, WI OR Wil-O-Way Grant, 207 S. Lake Drive, South Milwaukee, WI
ESSENTIAL DUTIES (FUNCTIONS):
- Interact with participants respectfully, age-appropriately, and culturally appropriately, honoring their preferences and requests, in accordance with behavior plans and care information.
- Ensure proper medication administration based on physician’s directives.
- Collaborate with the programming team to provide cares for participants with ADLs (toileting, bathing, ambulating, transfers, feeding, changing clothes, etc.).
- Report all cases of illness to the Camp Site Lead and assist participants who become ill.
- Clean up spills and bodily fluids using appropriate infection control procedures.
- Maintain participant safety by monitoring activities, ensuring a sanitary, clutter-free environment, setting up and maintaining pools (as applicable), and participating in safety training and emergency drills.
- Report suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation immediately per policies and procedures.
- Prepare, serve, and oversee feeding activities, including tube feeding, for snacks and lunches.
- Maintain program areas, supplies, and equipment, ensuring cleanliness, proper disinfection, adequate stock, and good working condition daily.
- Use assistive equipment and safe practices when transporting, lifting, and working with participants.
- Work with the programming team to develop interesting and stimulating activities suitable for most participants, including recreation and educational enrichment.
- Provide individualized assistance to participants as needed.
- Act as an appropriate role model.
- Encourage socialization, communication, and independence among participants.
- Redirect participants through positive actions.
- Deliver quality specialized services while mindful of resource usage.
- Stay updated on emergency procedures and protocols.
- Participate in meetings, professional development, and training as required.
- Plan daily activities in advance and complete recordkeeping tasks such as attendance and activity schedules.
*NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Serve as backup for various program staff and provide event summaries upon their return.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be able to perform all essential duties satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
Required:
- TB test.
- Criminal Background Check meeting WI licensure requirements for day programming.
- Experience with ADLs such as toileting, ambulating, transfers, feeding, etc.
Preferred:
- Current CPR, First Aid, CPI, and/or Universal Precautions certification/license.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities in healthcare or social services.
- On the Wisconsin Community-Based Care and Treatment Training Registry for Medication Administration.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with proof of insurance.
