Camp Counselor, Sports - French Creek YMCA

This role provides direct supervision of children in a seasonal day camp. The counselor creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, builds cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers, and promotes the potential of all youth through engaging activities and peer-to-peer connections.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensure children's safety by supervising program participants, maintaining staff-to-child ratios, providing aid when needed, and keeping the facility clean and maintained.
- Implement age-appropriate behavior management techniques.
- Plan and execute culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate activities aligned with YMCA values.
- Follow safety and cleanliness standards.
- Manage students during all field trips.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
- Adhere to YMCA policies, including those related to medical emergencies, disciplinary actions, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
- Maintain positive communication with parents, children, and staff, modeling relationship-building skills.
- Lead and participate in activities across indoor and outdoor settings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree preferred.
- Complete all licensing training within 30 days of hire.
Experience
- At least 1 year of experience working with children; experience in a day camp setting preferred.
- Experience in outdoor activities, archery, boating, camping, music, skits, sports, aquatics, or recreational games is preferred.
- Experience with diverse populations is a plus.
Certifications and Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Fingerprinting required.
- Medical clearance and immunizations.
- CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire.
- Obtain ODJFS licensing certification within 30 days of hire.

- Willingness to serve as a mandated reporter for child abuse or neglect, following reporting procedures.
