Job summary

City of Commerce seeks a part-time recreation leader to support Camp Commerce programs, instructing arts and crafts, team sports, and other activities under general supervision.

You will supervise children, ensure safety, and assist with life-skill development in a supportive environment. The role requires a high school diploma, one year of program experience, and CPR/First Aid certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• One year of recreation program experience, preferably in an organized camp setting.
• Must obtain Class C with passenger endorsement within 90 days of appointment.
• Must possess First Aid and CPR certification.
• Must be available to work during camp operating hours including evening, weekend, and holidays.
• May be required to work overtime.
• Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Department standards.
• Requires occasional travel and must pass a background investigation.

Responsibilities

• Oversees Camp Commerce guests, enforces rules and safety standards; leads program activities and assists participants.
• Instructs and supervises arts, crafts, games, and sports; organizes activities and maintains facility discipline.
• Instructs participants, evaluates performance, and helps with skill improvements in a safe setting.
• Supervises children and youth, monitors behavior, and ensures supplies and facilities are in order.
• Provides information and assistance to visitors; resolves problems within authority.
• Operates transportation vans in accordance with laws; conducts daily vehicle inspections and completes required reports.
• Assists in maintaining Camp facilities and performs related duties as assigned.
