Job summary

Ashurst Perkins Coie US LLP is seeking a 4-7-year associate to join our California Projects, Energy, Environment and Resources team in San Francisco. You will work on multi-jurisdictional energy and infrastructure projects, including electric transmission lines, renewables, and data center infrastructure, with opportunities for bet-the-project litigation in federal and state courts.

We emphasize regulatory approvals under CEQA/NEPA and will involve complex environmental defense, due diligence,

Qualifications

• 4–7 years of environmental, land use, or energy regulatory experience at a major Am Law firm or equivalent.
• Deep familiarity with CEQA and NEPA.
• Experience representing project sponsors of energy infrastructure projects.
• Experience with the CAISO planning process.
• Ability to translate technical data to clients and regulators.
• Mentor junior associates and paralegals.

Responsibilities

• Project Development & Permitting: Advise utilities, energy companies, and infrastructure project developers on federal, state, and local regulatory approvals, with a heavy focus on CEQA, NEPA, FLMPA, NFMA, and OCSLA.
• Energy and Infrastructure Administrative Proceedings: Represent clients in complex proceedings before regulatory bodies (CPUC, CEC, BOEM, CCC, CLSC, State/Regional Water Boards, cities/counties).
• Environmental Litigation & Enforcement: Defend project approvals in federal/state courts.
• Natural Resources & Land Use: Counsel through permitting and mitigation frameworks.
• Transactional Support & Due Diligence: Environmental/regulatory due diligence and transactional drafting.
