Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; associated degree or technical certification preferred.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, procedures and work instructions.
  • Experience in ISO 17025 accredited environments preferred; GD&T knowledge beneficial.

  • Verify measurement accuracy and generate calibration certificates/reports.

  • Support ISO 17025 compliance initiatives and internal quality audits.

Summary

Calibration Technician

Calibration Technician

Location: Novi, Michigan

Shift: 2nd - 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM start time

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence is seeking a detail-oriented Calibration Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for calibrating, certifying, maintaining, and supporting Hexagon's portable metrology products, including Absolute Arms, Laser Trackers, NextSense systems, and AICON Scanners. The Calibration Technician plays a critical role in ensuring our products meet the highest standards of measurement accuracy, quality, and compliance with ISO 17025 and NIST traceability requirements.

This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work with precision measuring equipment in a laboratory and production environment. Due to the nature of calibrating portable measuring arms, this is a physically active role that requires regularly lifting and maneuvering equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.

Job Responsibilities
  • Calibration & Certification
  • Perform accurate calibration and certification of Hexagon portable metrology products in accordance with ISO 17025, NIST traceability requirements, and established quality procedures.
  • Verify measurement accuracy and ensure all calibration activities meet internal and customer quality standards.
  • Generate calibration certificates and reports using SMax and other calibration software.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Repair
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair portable metrology equipment as needed.
  • Ensure all company-owned calibration equipment, tools, and measurement devices remain calibrated and in proper working condition.
  • Identify equipment issues and recommend corrective actions or upgrades.
  • Documentation & Quality
  • Maintain complete and accurate calibration records, reports, certificates, and service documentation.
  • Follow documented work instructions, quality procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Support ISO 17025 compliance initiatives and internal quality audits.
  • Technical Support & Continuous Improvement
  • Assist with root cause analysis and resolution of equipment performance issues.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Support engineering, manufacturing, service, and quality teams on calibration-related activities.
  • Assist with special projects and additional duties as assigned.
  • Calibration Technician II (if applicable)
  • Provide guidance and training to less experienced technicians.
  • Share technical expertise and support continuous development within the calibration team.
Qualifications
Required:
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or technical certification preferred.
  • Experience calibrating portable coordinate measuring machines (PCMMs), precision measuring equipment, industrial instrumentation, or similar equipment preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience using calibration software is preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience working in an ISO 17025 accredited calibration laboratory.
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Familiarity with metrology software and quality management systems.Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

Employees must be able to:
  • Frequently remain in a stationary position for extended periods while performing precision calibration activities.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and position equipment during calibration and testing.
  • Use manual dexterity to operate computers, calibration equipment, hand tools, and measuring instruments.
  • Regularly move throughout the laboratory, office, and manufacturing environments.
  • Frequently lift, carry, position, and maneuver equipment weighing up to 80 pounds as part of portable measuring arm calibration activities.
  • Have close vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus when inspecting precision components and measurement data.Work Environment:
  • Laboratory and manufacturing environment with occasional office work.
  • Use of precision measuring equipment and specialized calibration software.
  • May require occasional overtime to support customer commitments and production schedules.
